A dolce far niente in cozy and sophisticated surroundings

Etnia Toscana

Over the years, the Etnia label has been a symbol of authenticity, diversity, beauty and functional, sophisticated and seductive architectural forms. Now, with the creation of the Etnia Toscana label, it adds to its attributes the value of historical heritage, with two houses near Florence that provide privacy and silence for guests to cultivate dolce far niente in cozy and sophisticated environments.

Etnia Casa Gironi

Between the sea, the countryside and the mountains, Etnia Casa Gironi dates back to the year 1100 and is located within a pre-medieval village with the same name, Gironi, which etymologically comes from “around”, referring to the ancient wall that protected the village. On the way from Florence airport, 30 km from Casa Gironi, guests can admire a landscape of cypress trees with mountains in the background and feel the bucolic atmosphere in the air, full of soft colors, typical of the mythical Italian region. Located on the plateau of the province of Pistoia, the old Tuscan country house has been refurbished, with contemporary touches that dialogue with the ancient structure of stone and wood, prominent in the original design.

The property integrates with nature and the historical and cultural legacy of its village, offering cozy spaces that overlook the woods.
The common area includes a living room, dining room, guest bathroom, equipped kitchen and a large terrace with strategic openings onto the garden. From the terrace of Casa Gironi, you can see the towers of the Cathedral of San Zeno, patron saint of fishermen and newborns, built in the 10th century in the Romanesque style in Piazza del Duomo in the center of Pistoia. The first reference to it dates back to 923.

The living room has a fireplace, ideal for cozy moments with a good wine. In addition, the house has a studio that can function as a workspace for those who need to stay connected and work remotely, or to write a book, memoir or academic text.

The structural walls preserve the wide and heavy stones typical of Tuscany, called pietra serena, widely used in Renaissance architecture, and oak wood on the doors and windows, as well as cypress details. The flooring, in resin reminiscent of the famous burnt cement, was expanded in the last renovation, carried out ten years ago.

Casa Gironi has two suites on the second floor, decorated in a contemporary style, with modern bathrooms and completely renovated after three years of renovation. Although located in a rural area, it is only 40 minutes to the beach in the village of Forte dei Marmi, on the Versilia coast, where you can buy fabrics, ceramics, flowers and local crafts at the market held on Wednesdays.

30 km from Florence, 10 km from Pistoia and with easy access to cities such as Pisa (75 km), Lucca (55 km) and Siena (100 km), Casa Gironi offers history and comfort in the heart of Tuscany, close to the main towns that have important references to the works of Dante Alighieri, Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci – in his hometown, Vinci, a few kilometers from the house, there is a museum that showcases the genius of the master.

You can ride horses in the mountains or go hiking under the inspiring light of the region, which has enchanted so many artists. The neighbors and locals are central characters in this setting, which is reminiscent of a Cinecittà film from the golden age of Italian cinema. For those seeking immersion in Renaissance art, Florence's many museums are nearby. For shopping, there are stores of renowned brands such as Prada, Gucci, Ferragamo and Pucci, which originated in the region and now offer outlets to visitors in the outskirts of the Tuscan capital.

Interesting facts
In addition to being a typical medieval village, Gironi has a history of resistance to the Nazi regime – completely burned down during the war, the city was rebuilt after the war. From there, it is possible to see Pistoia, the birthplace of Pope Clement IX, who was head of the Catholic Church from 1667 to 1669. The provincial cemetery is the resting place of soldiers of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB), who fought alongside the Allies in World War II. Although their bodies were transferred to Aterro do Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro, Pistoia still has a plaque in their honor.

Etnia Casa Dell´Opera

Built in 1600, Casa Dell'Opera stands on a magnificent 3.5-hectare estate surrounded by olive groves, located just 500 metres from the small village of Pergine Valdarno, in the heart of the cultural and artistic triangle of Florence, Arezzo and Siena. The fantastic, unspoilt panorama of the surrounding area was painted by Leonardo da Vinci and today these paintings belong to the private collection of the British monarchy.

Under the careful eye of its owner, Casa Dell'Opera was completely restored in 2010, decorated with meticulous attention to detail and equipped with all the necessary amenities to ensure guests have an unforgettable experience.

On the ground floor, there is a very spacious entrance, which leads to the beautiful living room with fireplace and grand piano and views of the garden.

On this level, there is also a twin bedroom and a bathroom. The stairs lead to the first floor, where you will find a well-equipped Tuscan kitchen, a spacious dining room with an old stone fireplace, four double bedrooms and two twin bedrooms, as well as three bathrooms, a sauna and a TV room with satellite TV. A hallway leads to the covered panoramic terrace. All rooms are air-conditioned for those hot days.

Casa Dell'Opera also has an infinity pool surrounded by a beautiful orchard, as well as a barbecue area. A local chef is on hand to prepare exceptional Italian cuisine, as well as international and Mediterranean delicacies. The surrounding grounds are ideal for walking and horse riding – and for those who prefer to exercise in a different way, there is a gym.

Fun fact
In Pergine Valdarno, one of the highlights is the Castello di Montozzi, a medieval fortress that offers panoramic views of the valley and the Chianti hills. Surrounded by centuries-old olive groves, the property invites you to hike through the surrounding landscapes and enjoy wine and extra-virgin olive oil tastings.

ETNIA CASA HOTEL

Etnia, the history

André Felippe Zanonato, a designer from Rio Grande do Sul, arrived in Trancoso in 2000, after a long professional stint in Europe. In this peaceful and stylish city, he created the Etnia Casa Hotel, which quickly became a benchmark in high-end hotels, welcoming guests from all over the world and permanently leaving its mark on the Brazilian hospitality architecture, decoration and lifestyle scene.

With a talent for identifying good opportunities and expertise in the sector, he transformed the villas of the Etnia Casa Hotel into a condo-hotel, maintaining the Etnia seal, and set off for a new season in Tuscany, a region he knows well.

With the ability to design unusual and breathtaking environments, this nomadic soul has been living in Tuscany since 2022 and brought with him the desire to continue practicing hospitality, a natural and inevitable path in his career.

Over the years, the Etnia label has been a symbol of authenticity, diversity, beauty and functional, sophisticated and seductive architectural forms. Now, with the creation of the Etnia Toscana label, it adds to its attributes the value of historical heritage, with two houses near Florence that provide privacy and silence for guests to cultivate the dolce far niente in cozy and sophisticated environments.

ETNIA CASA HOTEL

Toscana

The region is an ode to beauty and culture, the birthplace of the Renaissance, where masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Botticelli left indelible legacies. This iconic setting, characterized by rolling hills that make up 75% of its territory, is home to charming medieval towns such as Gironi and Pergine Valdarno, which are home to the Etnia Houses, located in the heart of the “golden triangle” between Siena, Florence and Arezzo. From the top of its walls and towers, the splendor of the valleys reveals itself, full of vineyards, golden fields and olive groves, framed by rows of cypress trees that outline the Tuscan landscape. The local cuisine, a sensory delight, offers dishes such as pici and ribollita, accompanied by the renowned Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and Super Tuscan wines. In this land where art, history and nature intertwine, every step is a celebration of cultural legacy and an invitation to discover a world that continues to inspire and enchant.

The art of cooking is true entertainment for the soul.

And in Tuscany, guests have access to a variety of experiences in charming little villages. Local markets offer a rich selection of fresh, regional produce, including cheeses and cured meats, while the region’s wineries offer tastings of exceptional wines, true treasures of Tuscan tradition. The vast olive groves are the perfect place to purchase the most delicious olive oils, which are a highlight of the local cuisine.

For those who wish to explore their culinary skills, both houses are equipped with well-equipped kitchens. Alternatively, it is possible to hire a professional chef who can prepare personalized meals and appetizers, ensuring an unforgettable dining experience.

Hospitality

For the Etnia seal, hospitality is an expression of the art of encounter, of welcoming and of genuine exchanges between the team, guests and the environment. The intention is that, when they return to their homes, visitors take with them unforgettable emotional memories of their stay in Tuscany. At Casas Etnia Toscana, hospitality transcends the concept; it is a purpose renewed with each new guest who entrusts their experience to the management and unique identity of the two properties.

This commitment is maintained by the choice of quality products, ranging from bed linen to utensils and decorative objects. We work with suppliers of certified origin and select qualified guides to present the historical and cultural heritage of the region, in addition to recommending restaurants and small local festivals.

Each house provides a curated list with recommendations for museums, shops and tips that inspire an immersion in the charming references that characterize the identity of the Etnia seal. The team is prepared to offer personalized experiences based on local cuisine, the environment and culture, as well as organize surprise celebrations for special dates during your stay.

We know that pets are part of the family and, therefore, are always welcome. To ensure that the houses are well maintained, we have established some parameters that allow everyone to enjoy their stay in comfort and peace of mind. In this sense, we send a detailed document in advance, containing the suggested conditions for welcoming pets.

Sustainability

The Etnia label, with over 20 years of recognized quality, was born from the firm conviction that true hospitality must encompass sustainability. Guests experience, during their stay, a preserved historical, cultural, and natural heritage that aligns with the purpose of its founders. This invaluable legacy is promoted by the Etnia label, which works to enhance the destination. The use of certified wood, smart water reuse measures, waste recycling, and composting are permanent practices throughout the brand’s journey.
